Introduction

  • The Student Tourism Programme was officially launched on 24 February 2001 by the Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism in collaboration with the Minister of Education.

The main objectives of the programme are:

  • To stimulate domestic tourism activities by cultivating a tourism culture among students to encourage travel especially to historical and cultural places and eco-tourism destinations,

  • To curb social ills among students by encouraging them to spend their free time wisely and constructively,

  • To enhance racial unity and integration among the younger generation through properly planned tourism activities and travels.

What are the activities under this programme?

  • Student Tourism Club - To date, there are 1,344 tourism clubs that have been set up in secondary schools all over the country. These clubs organise activities at school level besides functioning as Information Dissemination Centre on the Ministry’s 3Ps activities.

  • 3Ps Seminar - This seminar aims to expose teachers and students to the benefits of tourism and recreational activities. It also aims at cultivating a travelling culture besides discouraging the students from being involved in unhealthy activities. Participants will also obtain new information about special promotions and tour packages from tour agencies.

  • State- and National-Level Student Tourism Quiz - This quiz is held every year and it is open to all Government-assisted schools except fully residential schools. The district- or state-level competitions are held to select representatives for the national-level competition. It offers many attractive prizes including the Tourism Minister’s Challenge Trophy.
